The Department of Nutrition at the University of Nevada, Reno seeks to fill a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the level of assistant, associate or full professor (rank commensurate with qualifications). The purpose of this position is to contribute expertise and scholarship that relates to applied nutrition. This position will be an integral component of the University of Nevada, Reno, the Nevada Agricultural Experiment Station, the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources.
The focus of this position is applied nutrition. This may include but is not limited to maternal and child nutrition, community nutrition, food security, and chronic disease prevention. The successful candidate will establish an impactful, independent research program as evidenced by extramural funding and publications in high tier scholarly journals. In addition, the candidate will contribute to vibrant undergraduate and graduate academic nutrition programs through effective teaching; advising and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds; and assisting with curriculum development and assessment. The candidate will also be expected to participate in academic and professional service commensurate with rank; and contribute to the outreach mission of this Land-Grant Institution. Collaborative efforts with faculty within CABNR and Cooperative Extension are anticipated.

PhD in nutrition or closely related discipline. Evidence of independent and collaborative research activities including publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Evidence of effective teaching at a college/university from culturally diverse backgrounds.
Evidence of leadership in developing community partnerships for the purpose of enhancing nutrition through research, instruction and/or outreach efforts. Evidence of experience with curriculum development and assessment of student learning; a commitment to continuous improvement relative to the roles and responsibilities of a faculty member; and familiarity with dietetic accreditation standards and policies. Documented success in securing extramural funding.

About College of Agriculture, Biotechology & Natural Resources - Department of Nutrition
The Department of Nutrition has an undergraduate enrollment of ~200 with students pursuing either dietetics or nutritional science specializations. We also offer an MS in Nutrition and are working toward a PhD program. Faculty help meet the state’s need for health professionals through two accredited dietetic programs; participation in the School of Medicine’s BS/MD Program; and by providing a strong science foundation for students seeking admission to allied professional schools. Departmental, college and university resources are consistent with that of a Tier 1 status earned by the University of Nevada, Reno. The Department values strong collaboration among faculty that advances the efforts of Cooperative Extension’s community-based nutrition education programs as well as the education of campus-based students.
