Applications are being accepted for a full-time, twelve-month faculty position with corresponding administrative responsibilities as Chair, Department of Nutrition Sciences, School of Health Professions, the University of Alabama at Birmingham. This will be a tenured appointment at the rank of Professor.
The Department of Nutrition Sciences has 25 full-time faculty members and more than 100 staff, students, and postdoctoral fellows involved in basic, animal, physiologic, clinical, and community-based research, patient care, and teaching. The department has a robust portfolio of extramural research funding, hosts both a NIH-funded Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC) and a Diabetes Research Center (DRC), and has a heavy involvement in the UAB NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Department has long-standing distinguished programs in obesity & nutrition patient care, a broad portfolio of nutrition education, and a dietetic internship.
The department chair is primarily responsible for providing broad, strategic oversight that will further advance the educational, clinical, and research initiatives of the Department of Nutrition Sciences. The successful candidate will possess proven leadership abilities capable of providing a level of guidance that will enhance current departmental programs and foster future academic collaborations throughout the UAB community and abroad. The ideal candidate will have an established record of academic excellence, mentoring, scientific leadership, and research in nutritional diseases and obesity. Minimum qualifications include a doctoral degree and established research in nutrition sciences and obesity. Individual must meet the school qualifications for a tenured appointment at the rank of full professor.

SHP is one of the nation's largest and most diverse schools of its type with over twenty programs at the baccalaureate, masters and doctoral levels.
