FDA’s Office of Nutrition and Food Labeling (ONFL) will soon be advertising, through USA jobs, to fill the position of Ph.D. Senior Nutritionist, located in ONFL’s Infant Formula and Medical Foods Staff (IFMFS) (Ph.D. Senior Nutritionist, GS13 or GS14). IFMFS is one of three major technical units in ONFL and is composed of scientists and regulatory professionals with backgrounds in neonatal medicine, pharmacology, nutrition and chemistry. IFMFS has regulatory authority over all infant formula sold in the U.S. and exported from the U.S., is responsible for review of all infant formula submissions, providing regulatory oversight for medical foods and subject matter expertise for within-FDA infant nutrition consults and international standards-setting organizations such as CODEX Alimentarius. For this purpose, IFMFS partners extensively, in a variety of settings, with other government settings within FDA, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the National Academy of Sciences (NAS).
