United Health Services is seeking a Clinical Dietitian to join our Wilson Medical Center team in Johnson City, NY. This is a benefits-eligible position.

Clinical Dietitian Position Overview

The Clinical Dietitian screens patients for nutritional risk and responds to nutrition consults as ordered by providers and the health care team. The Clinical Dietitian provides medical nutrition therapy for disease prevention and management to produce positive patient outcomes in the inpatient and outpatient setting for patients identified at nutrition risk and those referred by consult.

UHS Wilson Medical Center is a 280-bed hospital and Level II Trauma Center. In this position, you’ll serve a medical facility that is a regional leader in cardiac surgery, neurosurgery and neurosciences, cancer care, maternity and high-risk obstetrics, neonatal intensive care, blood disorder treatment, and physical therapy and rehabilitation. Wilson is a bustling hospital and is a 24-hour designated stroke and chest pain center.

Clinical Dietitian Responsibilities and Expectations

• Identifies patients at nutritional risk using evidenced based criteria.
• Responds to nutrition consults as ordered by providers or requested by patients and members of the health care team.
• Assesses the patient’s nutritional status and develops an interdisciplinary care plan to inpatients and outpatients.
• Provides nutrition education to inpatients and outpatients on prescribed diets.
• Provides follow-up care to assess effectiveness of the nutrition care plan.
• Collaborates with other health care team members about patient’s nutritional care through informal dialogue and interdisciplinary patient care conferences.
• Provides assigned learning experiences and evaluation of dietetic interns.
• Provides education and formal or informal presentations to other healthcare professionals or community groups.
• Gathers quality improvement data and assists in action plans to address areas needing improvement.
• Participates in inter and intra-departmental task forces and committees as requested or assigned.

Position Qualifications

Minimum:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or related field plus successful completion of a supervised practice program for nutrition.
• Must be eligible to sit for the registration examination for Dietitians.
• Eligibility for registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
• Successful completion of the Registration Examination for Dietitians within 6 months of hire date.
• Obtains NYS certification as a dietitian-nutritionist (CDN) within 1 (one) year of hire or after passing the Registration Examination for dietitians.

Preferred:

• Previous clinical experience in an acute care teaching facility.
• Registered Dietitian
