The R&D Manager will be responsible for the Naturex R&D - Nutrition team in the USA for the USA and Latin American markets. The R&D Manager will report to the global director – Nutrition and manage a team of 3-5 chemists and technicians to improve the existing products in response to Technical Requests (TRs), and develop new innovative products. They will be highly active in implementation of R&D strategy to accomplish the mission of Nutrition Business Unit and will fully cooperate with the Senior Manager R&D – Nutrition Europe and Asia Pacific (located in France). The R&D Manager is expected to play a positive role in overseeing the technical operations of the labs and building positive working relations inside and outside the team.
•Develop new products, herbal and botanical extracts, powder and formulations in line with the Nutrition Business Unit strategy. •Assess current and emerging technologies to identify candidate products for development, to create new products, as well as improve and expand existing product lines of botanicals •Lead a team of 3 to 5 chemists and technicians who work on the technical aspects of product development from the evaluation of the raw material and processes used to the analytical specification of the finished product, as well as design and execute experiments, and analyze and interpret data to make sound technical recommendations on product and process issues. •Support process development, improvement and troubleshooting •Build and maintain strong communication with the industrial, purchasing, regulatory, analytical, quality assurance and quality control departments to ensure scalability, robustness and safety of the products developed •Ensure development and maintenance of technical product documentation and specifications and Process SOP documentation. •Provides technical support to the sales team •Represent the company in industry forums and technical presentations •Manage laboratory operational tasks such as ordering supplies, maintaining solvents, inventory and POs and invoices. •Organize the laboratory operations and ensure that the lab environment is well maintained (calibration and maintenance of the lab equipment). •Is accountable for all team members following health & safety instructions when working in the laboratories, pilot plants, the Company, and while in customers’ laboratories •Strictly follow and ensures the team follows the “Good Laboratory Practices” and wears the correct PPE at all times •Ensure all hazardous and non-hazardous solvents are reagents are properly stored each and every time they are used •Ensure proper recycling of wastes – i.e. paper, cardboard, and hazardous wastes according to local and site/Company rules and regulations
•Master's degree in Science (chemistry or chemical engineering preferred) • 5+ years hands-on industrial R&D experience (nutraceutical or chemical industry strongly preferred) • The ability and interest to conduct hands-on work on plant-based ingredients in laboratory and cooperate with pilot plant and manufacturing scale environments • Detail oriented individual who can partner with technical departments (QC, QA), production / purchasing and Sales Department • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment • Strong leadership and management skills • Strong communication skills (oral and written) • Believes and practices the values of authenticity, integrity and teamwork • Superb work ethics Experienced, confident, comfortable with managing a team o Helpful and honest in offering guidance when needed / leads by example with a positive attitude and motivates team o Treats the team with respect and maintains professional /friendly work environment within the R&D department and various other departments that R&D needs to work closely with • Pack office (knowledge of statistics and use of statistical analysis software is a plus).
