Organizational Unit Overview
The Department of Nutrition Science has 14 full-time faculty members to support an undergraduate program of nearly 200 students and a distance education graduate program of 50 students. In addition to Bachelor of Science and Master's degree programs, The Department of Nutrition Science houses ACEND-accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) and the supervised dietetic internship programs (DI). Areas of research within the department extend across the lifespan to include metabolic dysfunction, obesity-related pathophysiology, immunity, food literacy, nutritional assessment of vulnerable populations, diet quality, weight management and disease prevention. Our faculty have strong collaborations with the College of Health and Human Performance, Nursing, School of Dentistry and Brody School of Medicine. Brody School of Medicine is a leader in obesity research, cardiovascular health, and endocrinology, and affords collaborative teaching/research opportunities. The Department of Nutrition Science within the College of Allied Health Sciences at East Carolina University (ECU) in Greenville, North Carolina invites qualified applicants to apply for a position in the area of clinical dietetics/nutrition science at the Assistant/Associate Professor level to begin August 2018.
Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate nutrition courses, advise undergraduate and graduate majors, undertake research, pursue external funding, and provide service to the department, university, community, and profession.
Likely areas of teaching specialization will include nutritional assessment and advanced clinical practice. However, other courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level may be assigned.
An earned Doctorate in nutrition or closely related field is required by the time of appointment.
Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor requires substantive research productivity demonstrated by records of scholarly achievement through publications, presentations, and demonstrated ability to secure external funding.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Registered Dietitian credentials are preferred.
Demonstrated university teaching experience is desired. We are particularly interested in faculty who possess a strong commitment to teaching using innovative methods, incorporate multicultural perspectives in their teaching, and have experience working with diverse faculty and students. We also seek faculty with a clearly demonstrated research stream within food, nutrition and/or clinical-related sciences.
