About Texas Tech University
Texas Tech University (TTU) is a state-designated national research university. Its 2010 strategic plan charts a course for Texas Tech becoming a great public research university by 2020. The university has characteristics of a Carnegie-classified doctoral granting university with very high research productivity and is ranked by both the National Science Foundation and... the Center for Measuring University Performance amongst the top 150 research universities in the country with total research expenditures exceeding $150M, an endowment worth $430M, total Ph.D.s graduated well over 200, with undergraduate and graduate enrollments of more than 28,000 and 5,800 respectively, and with faculty who are increasingly being recognized for their scholarship by NSF, the Welch Foundation, and others. It is expected that Texas Tech will at least double the size of its research activity by 2020.
During 2012, TTU received official notification from the state that it had met the criteria for National Research University (NRU) status. Achieving this goal was the highest priority target of TTU’s 2010-2020 strategic plan. But, TTU’s strategic priorities also serve as the basis for the next phase of evolution: becoming a Tier One research university with characteristics akin to those institutions recognized as members of the Association of American Universities (AAU). The strategic plan details the accomplishment of reaching NRU status and additional progress towards TTU’s 2020 goals.
