The Department of Nutrition invites applications for a full-time Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment (LPSOE), comparable to a tenure-track assistant professor appointment. LPSOE faculty are Academic Senate faculty members whose expertise and responsibilities center on undergraduate education, and scholarly analysis/improvement of teaching methods. We are seeking a dynamic educator to join a thriving department with diverse student population. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching two high enrollment lower division undergraduate Introductory Nutrition lecture courses each quarter (Nutrition 10 and Nutrition 10V), using both in-person and virtual education (on-line learning) methods. Other teaching may be assigned as needed by the department. They will also be expected to play a leadership role in the scholarship of teaching and learning, working with other faculty to develop, implement and assess new pedagogical initiatives. The appointee will participate in student advising. The appointee will develop an educational research program which can be discipline-based or focused on pedagogy. The campus offers a variety of teaching resources such as the Center for Educational Effectiveness. Qualified applicants must have a Ph.D. in nutrition or related disciplines, preferably with postgraduate experience. Other preferred qualifications include documented success in some or all of the following areas as related to foods, nutrition, health and scientific literacy: teaching large undergraduate classes, use of evidence-based teaching practices, use of modern instructional technology including on-line teaching and virtual modalities, ability to identify and develop effective teaching strategies for diverse student populations, conducting nutrition-related education research consistent with a successful discipline-based education research program. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
